Mcafee knob hike how long

Highly recommend going sunrise or early. This is one of the most popular hikes in the state so it gets busy really fast. Breath taking sunrise and sunset view. Trail was moderate, suitable for family hike. Great for day hike or overnight.

Hands down one of my favorite sunrise hikes. The hike was so iconic as it followed along the Appalachian Trail, you pass 2 AT shelters along the way. It just shows you how amazing it is to take a journey that large! This is one of my favorite local hikes although these days it's a really busy trail the 8 mile round trip is worth the view though last time we hiked it we went to watch the sunset from the top and didn't realize how fast the trail got dark so being unprepared as we were it was a little rough at times.

Sherwood Archers is a private archery club serving the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. Sherwood is affiliated with the Virginia Bowhunters Association. The purpose of the club is to foster, expand, and perpetuate the practice of all phases of archery and to encourage the use of the bow in the hunting of legal game. The range consists of one and one target field course, a five lane indoor range and seven outdoor practice targets.

As a member of Sherwood you have the opportunity to participate in archery events such as indoor winter leagues, 3D field tournaments, and you can shoot at your leisure. Sherwood has picnic and primitive camping areas available for member use. These can be reached in three separate day-hikes. Hiking to all three is generally done over a 2-day or even 3-day period.

But for super fit, experienced hikers it is possible to do it one extremely exhausting day that starts very early and ends very late. In reality, there is no camping at McAfee Knob proper. But there is plenty of camping near McAfee Knob, as well as en route to it. As with all AT campsites and shelters, they are first-come, first-served, and cannot be reserved.

In this section of the AT, all camping must be done in designated areas. Campsites along the AT are primitive, often with a nearby natural water source like a stream and no privy. However, shelters along the AT do usually have rustic toilets available. These shelters are usually wooden, shed-like structures that can sleep around eight people. They do tend to fill up quickly, and it would probably be thoughtful to allow thru-hikers who are attempting the entire AT to get first dibs.

For those wishing to see the renowned McAfee Knob sunrise, camping might be just the ticket! We encourage anyone who loves the Blue Ridge region to learn about the Leave No Trace principles of responsible environmental stewardship.
